Creating a scented Snowman
By admin | November 8, 2007
In this tutorial I will show you how to make this wonderful scented snowman!
This snowman is great for the winter season. It’s not a candle but when done right, it is much better.
You can save it and display it every year. We will use a highly scented wax to create the snow.
One of the great things about this snowman is that it can be used where a regular candle can’t and it smells great!

Before we begin make sure to cover your workspace with newspaper or wax paper as this can get very messy!
Supplies need for the scented snowman
- Fire extinguisher
- An Accurate Digital gram scale
- Wooden Spoon or Spatula that can withstand high temperatures.
- Pillar Wax ( There are many waxes available in candle making. For this example we have chosen a pre-blended paraffin wax. This wax has a high melt temp and it is very easy to use. It also has a wonderful scent throw without using any Additives. The wax is manufactured by The International Group. The product name is IGI 4625. )
- Candle Scent
- Glitter ( White or Silver )
- Beads
- Craft Paint
- Twigs
- Scrap of material
- Thermometer
- Double Boiler
- Gloves
- Hammer for breaking wax
- Eye protection (You don’t want hot wax, dye or scent in your eyes)
- Small plastic cups
Step 1. Getting our supplies together
First let’s measure our wax. The wax we are using in this example is IGI 4625. It comes in ten-pound slabs. We simply break the slab into small pieces with a hammer.
We will be using the same technique found in our Making The Grubby Primitive Iced candle to achieve our outside texture. ( the snow ) The results of this technique vary and you will have to experiment with the amount of wax needed. I would start with around 8-10 ounces of wax.
Step 2. Preparing the styrofoam balls.
We will use three styrofoam balls for the snowman’s body. These can be found at most local craft stores.

We need to trim them so they will sit on top of each other. I will use the serrated knife to carefully cut the bottom off of the top Styrofoam ball.

So now the head or top portion of our snowman should look like this.

We need to do the same thing to the middle portion and the bottom portion but we need to trim the top and the bottom. When finished they should look like this.

Now they can all rest on top of one another evenly.
