Creating the Jack- O - Lantern candle continued

Step 5. Pouring the candle

This has to be the easiest step. It is as simple as pouring our wax mixture into our mold.

We now have to wait for the wax to harden. The wax will shrink slightly as it hardens.

The amount of time it takes the wax to harden really depends on the temperature of the room where it is being cooled. Cooling the wax to fast can cause it to frost and pit on the surface of the candle. A room temp of 70-80 degrees is good enough. Now for the hard part, we have to wait.

Step 6. Demolding the candle

Test the candle for solidity before trying to demold it. It should be hard if you press on the exposed wax. If it is too soft, the candle can break or become distorted.

Creative Tip!

You can use the wax not being thoroughly cooled to create some very interesting designs. If you time it right the candle will be soft enough to stretch, twist or reshape. Use your imagination.

This is where the silicone mold comes in really handy Push the bottom of the mold with your thumbs while pulling the sides of the mold down with your fingers. Now we have our outer shell!

Step 7. Sealing the hole in the bottom of the candle

Since we used a mold that was designed for an electric candle we need to fill the hole in the bottom.

Sealing the hole in the bottom of the candle

Re-heat the leftover wax from your shell. If you don’t have any left over just melt about 1-2 ounces. Once it has reached a temperature of 190 degrees , place the jack-o-lantern shell onto some wax paper and pour a small amount of wax into the candle.

Sealing the bottom

We just need a small amount to seal the bottom. Do not fill the hole completely. Now we wait for it to cool and create a seal. Once it has hardened and sealed, we reheat our wax one last time and fill the hole in the bottom.
