If you are new to candle making or a seasoned veteran, these definitions and terms will help explain the candle making lingo!
Terms and Definitions
Lets start by explaining some common materials and terms used in candle making. If you want to skip over this, I would not advise it. It is important to understand exactly what we are dealing with.
Flash Point: The flash point is the minimum temperature at which the wax or scent will catch fire.
YOU SHOULD NEVER EVEN ALLOW YOUR WAX TO COME CLOSE TO THIS TEMPARTURE.
Melt point: The temperature at which a wax turns from a solid to a liquid
Release agent: Release agents are generally available in aerosol cans. They can be wax based, silicone based and petroleum based.
They simply put a lubricating barrier between the candle and the mold. This allows the candle to be removed ( demolded ) from the mold much easier.
Repour: A repour is simply when a candle wax cools, it shrinks causing the bottom or top of the candle to have a void that will require more liquid wax in order to complete the candle.
Demold: Removing the candle from the mold.
Mottling: Creating a blotchy or patchy rustic type look.
Parting line: A parting line is the line that is left on the surface of a candle where the two halves of the mold meet. They can be removed with a little work.
