Moms Should Have Hobbies, Too
Filed under Arts and Crafts by
Moms are definitely some busy creatures, but especially because of that reason, they need something they can use to shed stress and remain happy. The key to being happier may be as simple as finding a hobby. Let’s see why having a hobby, even for moms, is a wonderful idea.
Having a hobby is a great way to diminish stress and tension.
Spending time with a hobby replaces negative thoughts and replaces them with positive thoughts and feelings. Opening the floodgates of creativity, or focusing on a favorite activity, raises your spirits and fights off depression.
Unlike passive activities like television viewing, a hobby provides intellectual stimulation while simultaneously relaxing you. Engaging in repetitive actions such as knitting is particularly relaxing.
Having a hobby leads you to being a better parent.
We are always ready to involve our children in different activities and things they can learn from, even at the cost of driving them all over town and paying for special classes. But, like our children, we also need to continue growing and learning new skills. And, when you pursue a hobby, you are more likely to meet people you are compatible with.
Engaging in a favorite hobby allows you to be a person too, and not just a parent. This sets a good example for our kids and also creates healthy boundaries.
Hobbies allow you to break the routine in your days.
Especially if you are a stay-at-home mom, by the time you reach the end of each day you might feel as if you haven’t accomplished anything. Unfortunately, this is a direct result of the type of work you do, taking care of children and home.
In the old days, some of the hobbies women pursued had double benefits they provided a change of routine, and they also allowed them to make an extra small income or to make things their families could use.
You can even benefit from other hobbies such as dancing, gardening and tennis, since they provided often desperately needed exercise. Activities that are good for your body and mind at the same time are particularly beneficial.
So, mom, don’t you think the time has come for you to pursue something you enjoy? Find the time. Rearrange your schedule and put YOU back in it, and start carving out time for your favorite pastime.
